LOUISE XI

TYPE DESIGN
LOUISE XI is an expansion contrast, book-weight font I developed in the first term of the Type@Cooper Extended Program in Typeface Design. The type is a revival of the typeface in which Alexandre Dumas’ D’artagnan’s Romances — Louise de la Valliere is printed. The goal of the project was to train the eye in development of a typeface based on perceived relationships in the text-size printing of our source material, Through careful study via both scans and through analysis of the printed page with a loupe, image adjustments in Photoshop, and construction of each form in Robofont, I designed LOUISE XI. The text shown for this project is all pulled from Dumas’ writing, who had quite a wit when writing chapter titles I learned.
